National Heritage Day is one of the most important celebratory events on the Imbizo Shisanyama Busy Corner calendar. For over a decade the specialist African cuisine restaurant in Ebony Park Midrand has glamorously celebrated the true African identity in great style, class and dignity.
Every year the restaurant, founded on the principle of paying homage to the authentic African culture, brings the African culture and heritage to life through showcasing glamorous traditional African attire; performances by top traditional artists and of course the very best in authentic African cuisine.
This year’s festivities will be hosted by UkhoziFM and Roots presenter MC Ngizwe Mchunu who will be joined by thousands of eager patrons dressed in vibrant customary traditional attire to pay tribute Africa’s heritage. Patrons will enjoy live performances by some of SA’s top traditional artists including Pleasure; Dekgalala tsa Orange Farm; Khuzani; Mbuzeni and Shwi Nomtekhala.
Rita Zwane, founder and MD of Imbizo Shisanyama says: “For centuries our legacy and heritage has been passed on by our forefathers, from generation to generation, and still provides a solid foundation from which we can learn and understand our true identity, history and cultures. Understanding our roots helps build a stronger future for our children, one that will enable them to speak proudly about their identity and origin. It is only when our kids clearly understand who they are, that the accurate history of Africa can be told.”
“Since 2002 we have been celebrating the 24th September - National Heritage Day in recognition of SA’s great diversity and rich history. Braai (Ukhosa in isiZulu) is one of the most recognised of our traditions uniting all South Africans regardless of race or creed,” concludes Rita.
